about

Music created in late 2023/early 2024 during the war on Gaza, and inspired by the Palestinian struggle for justice and freedom

***

Right from the very early days of Israel's attack on Gaza in October 2023, I have been witnessing a few artists that I like taking a clear stance against it, immediately understanding that something bigger and more dangerous than "self-defence" was coming.
They were mainly underground electronic/experimental/dance artists (plus some famous ones: well done Luciano!), confuting the zionist narrative and calling for mobilisation, spreading news and not worrying about the possible consequences of their actions. All amidst the striking silence of so many acts - especially from the rock and pop camp - that are usually very vocal on every important issue.
I was feeling the same way: helpless and furiously motivated at the same time, horrified (much worse things were to come, sadly) and angry, and eager to do something more than discussing, spreding information, boycotting, demonstrating.

That's why I decided do produce and release a benefit compilation, and asked those artists for a track. It had to be something new and done on purpose. Something produced right in that moment, with the images and sounds coming from Gaza in mind, inspired sonically and/or emotionally by what was happening. Something that would reflect the dramatic circumstances in which it was written, and the artist's emotional involvement.
That was the main point: the urge to do something useful, but also the desire to create a testimony, an artistic statement that could stand the test of time as art produced in times of genocide, by artists involved on a human and political level.

It all grew from there, with word of mouth and exchange of information helping to build an amazing group of outstanding musicians and kindred spirits. I thank all of them deeply for accepting the challenge and making it, no matter how hard it was to focus on their creativity while such horrific news and images kept coming. I thank them even more deeply for taking such a clear stance in times of colonial violence, silencing of disagreeing voices, cultural witch-hunt and distorted media narratives, despite all possible consequences.

The album will be released in three formats: T-shirt with download, limited edition cassette with download, and just download. All available from Love Boat's Bandcamp page (love-boat.bandcamp.org).
The T-Shirt will feature the album's cover painting, by Jordanian/Palestinian artist Tala Abunuwar.

All proceeds will go to M.A.P. (Medical Aid For Palestinians), a long-running and trustworthy British charity providing medical help to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and speaking out against the occupation and all its tragic consequences for Palestinian people.

Inspiration for the title comes from the wonderful singing doctors of al-Awdah Hospital, Gaza:
"We will stay here until the pain is over/We will live here, and we will keep singing".
